#18 closed enhancement (fixed)

ZIP and 7z encryption using what strength cipher

Reported by: prologue Owned by: aONe
Priority: major Milestone: Keka 1.0.5
Component: Version: 1.0.4
Keywords: AES 256 encryption Cc: diganta@…

Description

It wasn't clear to me what cipher was used for encrypting ZIP and 7z files.

We would need to have something that does AES-256 as other programs like
7-Zip on the Windows side does too.

The website for Keka wasn't clear on what the encryption strength was.

Hi prologue,

This was asked before here:

http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=3089204&group_id=275361&atid=1169898

But I've spent some time on this and I see it would be easy to use a combo to select the cipher:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/sevenzip/forums/forum/45797/topic/3493382

Will post the changes here.

Thanks!

7z it's using aes256 but seems that zip is using a legacy one. Changing this for the next version with the arg -mem=AES256

An AES256 encrypted file seems to be not compatible with the default compressor bundled in the latest version of Mac OS X (10.8.2).

I'm going to add this feature as an option. Hidden option in 1.0.4, adding it as a GUI option in the next revision.

Since no Mavericks support yet, not option in the GUI yet.

Added an option to enable/disable AES cypher in Zip in Keka 1.0.5 r792:
